Different chord in one part

Sometimes in a big band arrangement where there is a complex chord with a lot of extensions, the guitar might play a chord based on the higher extensions. Many guitar players will know how to do this when reading a chord symbol with a lot of alterations, but Is there a way to give the guitar a chord symbol that’s different from the underlying chord symbol to simplify what they play?

Just input a Local chord symbol:

Do both chords in your example have to be input as local chord symbols? It’s not working for me, but I assume I’m not doing it right.

If I change the top chord symbol to Dbmin7 using Opt-L, it changes the bottom symbol as well. The 3. Optional note refers to changing the chord symbol “type” and in the example it changes to a different type of chord but based on the same root. I need to change the root as well as the type of chord. Is that possible?

Hi FredGUnn. I figured it out. I didn’t recognize the little head icon in the chord popover, but eventually saw it and used that. Thanks for the help.

Glad you got it working! Holding down Opt/Alt activates that too so after you input the chord in the popover, Alt+Enter will input it as local.
