How do I input a second vocal part with a different rhythm on the same vocal line as in “layers” in Finale?

Thanks, This was very helpful. I was able to input the second voice. I’m still having difficulty tying the new voice notes to one another without affecting the original voice. The second voice is just whole notes on “ooh”. Any ideas?

Oh my goodness, I figured it out for myself! A first! I was trying to use the ty tool but in fact needed the slur tool. Thanks for your patience.

Well, you can slur in lieu of a tie, but it’s better to use the right tool.

From your description, I’m guessing the rhythmic notation changed when you tied. To prevent that happening you can use force duration:
