Direct Monitoring Input

I’m new to tracking my own vocals, self taught first time user in Cubase Artist 15. I’m having issues with figuring out how to gain stage my input levels. I’m using Focusrite 2i2, simple interface. My question is when I have direct monitoring on my focusrite, but disabled on the vocal track i see no input levels, plugins don’t work in real time. Is there any way to hear my dry vocals from the scarlett but also view my input levels/plugins working in real time?

Hello and welcome to the forum,

so to understand correctly, you had the “monitor” button enabled to check the level coming from you microphone, but of course for recording you want to use the direct monitoring function from your audio interface in order to not have any latency on your vocals?

Why don’t you leave the monitor button enabled in Cubase until you’re happy with the signal level, then just disable it? Quick to to with a key command (Ctrl+M).

There are also the input channels in the mix console that always show the level regardless of the target tracks monitor status.
