When I load a poly-wav file into Nuendo, it will load into a single track, then configure the ‘channel configuration’ to the best fit based on the number of tracks in the file. I then have to go through a process of splitting the file into lanes and then creating tracks. (I work mostly in music).
surely (and I know this is true from PTHD) I should be able to either:
1/ create ‘virtual’ mono files from an existing poly-wav file and work with those in mono nuendo tracks, or
2/ route the audio to mono group tracks based on the channel number in the original file.
Basically, I want to be able to mix and edit without having to go through the process of ‘splitting’ the poly-wav files and creating additional flies to manage in the media pool. surely it can’t be this hard?
thanks, that streams the audio to multiple destinations for a mix. But lets say i want to edit a bit of 1 channel in an 8 channel poly wave and leave the other channels unaltered? How would i do that? You can’t edit the individual tracks per channel.
Ok inagine an 8 channel polywave recording of a boat. 1 mic ob the bow, 1 in the engine room. 3 stereo pairs (of which 1 is in the cockpit). The captain has to make a call to coastguard. I would to be able to take out just that bit and paste an earlier part in it’s place, but not also replace that same moment in the other 6channels.
This is a simple example. But i also edit out mic handling noises etc.
For this kind of edit it is alway necessary to have real mono files. You remove tings and more. I would like to have multiple mono files and put the on several tracks. For this kind of edits I never use lanes. But perhaps I missunderstand your question.
@tim_heinrich
So there is no need to split into mono PT handles this.
@edwar64896 sorry for taking over the thread…
Thanks Tim. this is getting closer to what I am looking for.
Assuming a 7-channel poly file, I have to create a 5.0.2 group and also a 5.0.2 output bus for this to work. I managed to get it going by routing my ‘transfer’ group to the 5.0.2 output, then it would happily route my audio to the mono tracks.
What happens when we are working with 64 or 128 track projects? I fear that relying on the ‘configuration’ parameter of the channel may not be possible at higher channel counts as there is no ‘multichannel configuration’ that can be leveraged in this workaround.
This whole scenario is less applicable to sync sound for picture as most tracks in a poly are disparate and are unrelated. My situation is entirely music related, where all tracks are very closely related and form part of the same soundstage.
Yes if only life was predictable and everyone did things the same way. Haha.
I would love if it would be as you describe but when i record vehicles with up to 16 tracks over multiple recorders i sure want them to be in sync and have granular control over the channels in nuendo.
