Hi folks. I’m having some issues with Cubase which I’m pretty sure are related to a larger macOS issue, but I’m in the middle of a project and don’t have time to reinstall everything, so I need to be able to limp along till it’s done.
When I launch a project, several macros are either missing entirely or missing sub-commands, and if I rebuild a missing macro, it won’t show up in the next project. I’ve saved the Key Commands as a preset, and can recall them in other sequences, but it’s annoying.
Secondly, some of my MediaBay favourites are missing (folders no longer in the list), or metadata that I’ve put in for files (tempo, key, bars, etc.) is gone. I’ve spent a fair bit of time getting them set up as I like, so this is also a headache.
It feels like some preference file has gotten corrupted, but that’s just a guess. Any suggestions on what I might try to get things to fly right till I can really address things?
14.7.3, Cubase 14 Pro.
Hi,
Does Cubase crash on Quit (maybe silently) by any chance?
Mac: macOS Console utility > Crash Reports (or ~user/Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports).
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, there’s a fair bit of crashing, both on quit and sometimes while working (thank you, autosave!).
I’ve attached the two crash logs from yesterday, I’m not sure what to look for in them.
Thanks!

Hi,
Both of the crashes come from Cubase 14.0.10. Update to the current version 14.0.20, please.
Hi Martin. I did the update, and the problems and crashes remain. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
Hi,
Attach the new *.ips files, please.
Hi,
Every crash is different:
- Engine
- FabFilter Pro-Q 3
- Cubase
Please, try to update all your plug-ins.
I do tend to keep my plugins updated, I still have some Pro-Q 3 in my session as it’s based off an older template, but I’m mostly using Pro-Q 4. I’ll update Engine, although it rarely gets used, and so likely wasn’t the issue for most of the crashes I’ve been having.
The problem with forgotten macros and setting still remains.
One other thing has come up since updating today. I use Divisimate 2 across my template for my orchestral instruments, for the occasion that I want to do divisi writing. It’s a MIDI app that filters incoming MIDI and routes it to individual tracks. Most of the time it’s in bypass, to allow me just to record MIDI on tracks normally. With the 14.0.20 update, the MIDI inputs in Cubase are showing the virtual ports from Divisimate as they should, for example Divisimate Port 1, Channel 1, but when playing notes on my controller with Divisimate in bypass, it seems to be receiving 16 of the same note, leading to a big volume boost, distorted audio from my VIs, truncated notes on legato instruments, and just general discontent. If I manually reselect the MIDI channel (as in, I assign the MIDI channel to 1 on the same port), it clears the issue and everything’s fine, although the reassigned MIDI channel is also not being remembered when I close the project and has to be done again once I open it.. I had the same problem the first time I updated to 14.0.20, when I went back to 14.0.10 it went away.
Would it possibly be a corrupted preferences file or something along those lines?
Thanks for your help.
Hi,
If Cubase crashes on Quit, these changes are not stored. Therefore the issue remains. Before we solve the crash on quit issue, the most safe way is to start Cubase, create the Macro, quit Cubase. If you don’t do any other work, there is higher chance, Cubase will not crash on quit, therefore your Macro (or other change) will be stored.
Sorry, I don’t know this plug-in. But you can do this within Cubase by using Input Channel (or Input Transformer in the older Cubase versions) and MIDI Sends.
I don’t know, what exactly should the plug-in do. But you can use MIDI Monitors to double-check, what kind of data do you send and receive, so where is the difference between 14.0.10 and 14.0.20 (if it’s on the send or receive side). Then we can investigate more.
Hi Martin. I was in the middle of typing a giant email yesterday, explaining how Divisimate works, what the problems I’ve been having are, and meandering my way towards trying to figure out solutions, when I did something in Divisimate, and all of a sudden, things seem to be working. The unfortunate thing is that I’m not quite sure what was the magic thing I did was, so I’m not 100% sure I can trust it, and I don’t know that I could recreate it if the problem pops back up again. But for the moment, things are working as they should, the multiple MIDI events have disappeared, and I should be able to make it through until the end of my project. I’ve left the abandoned email in progress below the line, feel free to look through it if you’re curious, but hopefully it won’t need to be addressed.
As for the forgotten settings, they seem to be forgotten in older projects, but I’ve gone into my templates, loaded the Key Command presets and resaved, and they’re being remembered in new projects created off the templates, so that’s also good news. Back in business, at least for the time being!
Thanks for your help, it’s much appreciated.
Jeff
