There are Engraving Options that govern the horizontal spacing between syllables.
Yes, but they’re not enough. The spacing between syllables, and therefore between notes, needs to be able to be modified as desired using a separate format. As configured, you have little ability to modify the spaces.

Group the various options found in the Options in a single window. Otherwise, you’ll have to constantly switch between windows pointlessly.

Otherwise, someone should explain to me what the spacing is used when selecting the option in the red box in the image I sent.
The Layout Option that you have shown controls whether Notes are moved apart to accommodate lyrics; or whether the syllables do not affect note spacing.
I can’t think why anyone would switch this off if there are lyrics in the layout, but apparently it was requested.
It’s a Layout Option because you it affects the Layout.
All the other options are global, so they are Engraving Options.
Reduce this option from the default of 1 space to a much smaller value.
