Dither 32 bit float render?

Hi PG …

WL is of course doing its sums 32 bit float.

When rendering a 32 bit float file with plugs to produce a resultant 32 bit float file (so 32 bit fp to 32 bit fp), is there any advantage to adding dither?

I would have thought the answer is “no” but another here has some different ideas.

Dither is only necessary when reducing the bit depth. Even when reducing to 24 bits, using it is a counsel of perfection (and since 32-bit floats only have around 24 bit of precision it may well have no purpose at all). OTOH, when going to 16 bits it is essential.

pwhodges is right

Thank you both …
