I’m trying to figure out “voice” assignments in Divisi with Independent Voice Playback.
What “voice” is being created when this is activated for Divisi? I see both Player voices are showing Upstem 1 in the score, but nonetheless another (configurable) Playback channel appears that can host a separate VST assignment.
Is it really an independent voice? Or is it just a new channel assignment that’s created when Divisi is instantiated and Independent Voice Playback is turned on?
It appears that this is the case (following some experimentation). So, if you want a different VST for a solo voice, rather than depending on the automatic assignment, which copies the original assignment to a different channel, then it would make sense to start by adding content to voice 2 in the the staff, then turn on Independent Voice Playback, then add a solo instrument VST to the Voice 2 instance. Then, when alternating between solo/gli altri and tutti, for the solo passages voice 2 will give the solo sound in the Solo staff.
