I seem to have a bug or glitch in this Violin 2 part. I have used Divisi function to label a stave with 1,2,3, (to indicate divisi all on one stave). This has worked fine in Violin 1. There seems to be a bug in the violin 2 part, or, i guess, some conflict with something else that means the staff labels are not showing up. I have gone through and checked that layout options are the saem in both parts, and also I have removed and re-added the divisi, and also copied the exact divisi signpost from Violin 1 to 2. In both parts the divisi is coming after a unison. You can see the Dorico has indented the music on the Vln 2 part, but is not showing the labels.
I’ve tried everything I can think of — does anyone have any experience / suggestions?
Happy to send the score over but it’s too alrge to post here, and stripping it out might strip out the thing that’s causing the conflict.
Hi @Schweinhorn, the only difference I see is the Condensing Change at bar 38. Not sure it can influence the labels in Vn 2.
If the file is too big, you can upload on retransfer and share the link here (it will be only 3 days available), or use any cloud service (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc…).
In a situation as you have shown above, I probably would not use the divisi feature at all, but write the three notes on the main staff, using voices where necessary.
@Christian_R i’m going through both Vln 1 and 2 parts painstakingly to see if there’s anything I can see that’s causing it. If I still can’t find it, I’ll upload the file. I’ll check the condesing too, good shout.
It’s happening throughout the Vln 2 part, not just that one location, but only where there is a Divisi that is only one staff. The Vln 1 part behaves as expected… strange.
You have to disable condensing, or select “exclude section players from condensing”. Having section players included in condensing in Layout Options, and then having a Condensing Change override to “no condensing” will not fix it.
I hope that helps anyone else having the same problem!
DEV TEAM: I guess this behaviour is a bug… Let me know if you want more info! WOuld be great if it can be fixed at some point.
Here is a sample file that shows the bug. There are two layouts of the same music, one with section player condensing enabled, the other without. The music shows different combinations of condensing and divisi. The incorrect case is rehearsal figure 2, where the labels do not display properly when condensing is enabled and there is only one Divisi part, but Dorico does indent the music as if the labels should be there.
Adding a condensing change override (neither ‘no condensing’, manual nor reset, nor any of the available staff label options) to the layout with condensing enabled does not fix the problem.

If you add a divisi section and then delete it, it allows you to edit the name of the single existing Divisi group. This is very useful if you want to change staff labels, for example to label a simple divisi on a single stave without using Condensing (which I find often much easier and requires less tidying up in Engrave mode).
It isn’t meaningless, and shouldn’t be the same as Figure 3. That divisi label is the whole point of this thread! Look at the individual layouts to see it.
