Divisi staves not always showing

I’ve got a project where string parts are often divisi up to 3/4 parts, but occasionally there are pages where ones of the staves isn’t showing [eg violin I(c)]. I’ve got layout options set to never hide string staves, I’ve reset the staff visibility and tried manually selecting showing for those specific staves, I’ve tried closing/reopening, and I’ve also tried turning condensing on and off (condensing only affects Wind/brass but you never know). Any other ideas for what I can try?

Do you have multiple changes of divisi happening in close proximity? Dorico can only handle one change of divisi per-system, so only the first divisi change on a system will take effect.

in these instances it’s just one per page

but it is changing from one type of divisi to a different divisi (2-3 parts, rather than back to unison)

I have figured out the logistical issues with having divisi start midline… It’d be great if there was a way that it could flag somehow where it doesn’t work so that it’s obvious without going into galley view where any material is missing from the score

Of course you could just carefully coordinate your divisi changes and your system breaks, but that is not a real solution, and often causes me to have to commit the sin of splitting the project into separate ‘score’ and ‘parts’ files.

given that the divisi in Dorico always shows from the start of the line anyway the next best way is probably just to hide staves a little more liberally and have fewer official divisi points. Or use cutaways I suppose.

There are few things I wouldn’t do to avoid having to divide into separate score/parts files
