Just curious if I need to update the ASIO driver now that I’ve updated to Windows 11 with Cubase Pro 9.5. Currently installed is Generic Low Latency ASIO driver version 1.0.12.17 -x64. If yes, then how do I do it?
Hi,
You don’t need to, if your driver is working fine.
The reason that I ask is that I can’t have more than one application use ASIO without one of them preventing others from working. For example if Cubase and iZotope both use ASIO and I open Cubase first and then open iZotope R6 then iZotope gives an error and won’t play audio. On the other hand if I open iZotope first and Cubase 2nd then they both play. If Presonus Notion uses ASIO then Cubase plays but no audio and iZotope gives an error regardless of which application is opened first. My workaround is to have Cubase use ASIO, iZotope use MME, and Notion to WASAPI. I wonder if the latest ASIO has solved this.
Indeed - most ASIO drivers are single client and as you suggested, using stock Windows drivers for software that doesn’t need super low latency is the easiest way to use an editing program while Cubase is open.
If you search for multi-client ASIO, you might find a mention of FlexASIO, which may work? However I haven’t tried it, so can’t vouch for it.
The old (2012) experimental multi-client by Charlie Steinberg didn’t work for me anymore on more modern Windows systems.
For the last few years I’ve been using an RME audio interface and those drivers feature multi-client ASIO.
Thanks Nico5. I’ll just use stock Windows drivers for everything other than Cubase.
