Do I need Dorico Pro or will Dorico Elements work for composing marching drum cadences

Hello everyone,

I am looking to replace Finale PrintMusic with a Dorico Edition and I am hoping I can get some help with choosing the right edition. I was using PrintMusic to compose drum cadences and I was happy with it. But it doesn’t appear to work with Windows 11 and I am moving on.

All I really need it for is to compose drum cadences. I want to easily compose and then hit play to listen to how they sound and then easily adjust them.

When I am happy with the results, I want to roll it out to a DAW with a very nice virtual instrument for marching drums. .

So, I am looking to see which edition I need for this. Do I need Dorico Pro or will Dorico Elements suffice?

Thanks very much for your time.

Best,
Christopher

If you are upgrading from Finale through their discount purchase plan, Pro is the target replacement; but using a modifier key as you open Dorico Pro will let you open Elements instead.

As a Finale PrintMusic user, you’re eligible to buy Dorico Pro at the special crossgrade price of $149 from MakeMusic’s online shop. Dorico Elements costs $99 if you buy from our online shop (or $66.99 if you’re eligible for our educational pricing). So you could get everything that Dorico has to offer for $149 (and in fact I believe a further 15% discount is available at the moment, for a limited time), which is a pretty good deal.

However, having said all that, I believe Dorico Elements would indeed be sufficient for producing drum cadences.

As @Derrek suggests, you can install a Dorico Pro trial version and then hold Alt when you start it up to run it as Dorico Elements, and easily switch between the two versions to see which will work better for you.
