I’ve been trying for 4 days now to add my Midi Maker Sparrow to Cubase 13 artist with no luck. I’ve read that once assigned the 3 faders on the Midi Maker website Cubase will recognize it. Also heard no need to create a script.
Cubase sees it as a midi port option but I cannot work out how to assign Midi CC# to it, like expression number 11.
Is this all true and if so, is there any info with steps on how I can get this to work? Any info greatly appreciated.
Charles
Thanks Steve, yes I have. I just think I’m doing something simple wrongly. I may just keep trying as I did have this working 2 years ago but can’t recall how I did it. I’m unsure if I really need to use Midi Remote as from what I have read it is not needed. Anyway, thanks.
I have a Sparrow midi controller. 5 100mm sliders, 5 pots, and it’s simply usb plug and play. It’s worked 100% of the time over the past several years. I’ll assume we are referring to the Sparrow 3d printed midi controller that comes with the CCs that you told the seller to pre-install?
However I have never had the need to change any CCs using the Midi Editor tool.
Hi Greg,
Yes I bought the 3D Printed controller, but as per their instructions, I used their software tool to select what CC# I wanted and assigned them. There is a section in cubase that recognizes this but no clue how to make the thing work.
Since you stated your controller shows up as a MIDI port in Cubase, make sure it is included in “All MIDI Inputs” and assign the MIDI Input of your MIDI/Instrument Track to All Inputs.
Ok That is all correct but still not working.
I have to head out for much of today but will get back to troubleshooting later. Anyway, know that I greatly appreciate the assistance from users in the forum. Take care..
I’m assuming when you purchased it, that it did have CC’s from the factory? You simply want to change them with Midi Maker? I remember when ordering mine years ago that I had to specifically state which CC’s I wanted built in before it would be shipped.
Again to my knowledge Sparrow is plug and play. And it’s included in “all midi inputs.” No configurations needed unless you want to change the CCs. No midi script necessary.
Since Cubase recognizes it as a port option, I’ll assume when you move any controllers, there is no midi activity in Cubase?
Someone had this same issue a few years ago. The fact that you had it working years ago, but can’t get it going today suggests it must be with Midi Maker?
Thanks again, Greg.
Midi Maker have a app on their site that you set up the unit and select which CCs you want where. You are correct that cubase shows no data but I will get back to this later this evening as I am busy doing some things around the house, plus my wife needs some time with me tonight.
I purchased the unit directly from The Midi Maker in 2023.
I just started over and made some headway. Now, fader 2 is working (Sustain) but the other 2 faders non responsive, even though under Input Monitor screen all 3 faders are working. Very odd.
I’m now thinking that there must be something I have installed that is hindering my efforts to get the other 2 faders working. Obviously Cubase knows and recognizes my unit. I uninstalled Divisimate as those extra 32 midi ports may have been an issue, but doubt it now. I will start over again later today..
Is you create a new MIDI Track, set the MIDI input to your controller and add the MIDI Monitor insert plugin, do you receive data from all three faders?
Just FYI- I tried to use the fader box again now on a kontakt instrument and allthough 2 faders still don’t do anything when I slid down all 3 faders to zero or the bottom, there is no sound unless I move 3rd fader all the way up which is modulation.
I’m heading out for much of today, I’ll check back early this evening.
Again, thanks to all who have helped me.
So your controller is working just fine then.
If you expect your faders to perform a function on your VST Instruments, you need to make sure that there is a parameter tied to the specific MIDI CC you are sending. Lots, or perhaps most, instruments respond CC #1 (Modulation) out of the box so it comes as no surprise that this fader performs a function. For your other faders, check the user manuals for your specific instruments you are trying to control.
