Do we still need playback templates?

Hi,

I’ve spent a lot of time in creating playback templates fitting every particular situation.

But after the introduction of the Library Manager, do we really need to do it? An alternative approach could be that of creating the setup on the go.

  1. Add the instruments you need for the current score.
  2. If an instrument isn’t immediately available (for example, ‘ Vni Div. Ia’) create it and save it among the preferred ones.
  3. Link it to a playback device and sound. Use a predefined map to choose the MIDI channel and VEP instance.
  4. Load an expression map and/or percussion map.
  5. Import the playback and playing techniques from a template, or another score. I have a spreadsheet listing all the names and types, to be sure to have them always go into the correct cell.
  6. Ok — you can save it as a playback template, with the name of the piece you are composing… next time, you’ll inherit from an existing piece, not a template.
