Do you know Isao Tomita? I first heard his Debussy piano pieces on his albums. He created Debussy pieces full of tempo rubato using only a multi-channel recorder and an analog sequencer. At the time, synthesizer players were often playing in-tempo Bach notes, so his expressiveness was astonishing. He later constructed his works using a digital sequencer, but he said he would first write the score of the piece he wanted to play, so if he were to use it today, he would probably use Dorico. With Dorico, the score can be directly translated into a performance full of expressiveness!
Yes, do a search for glass pyramids. He rendered Debussy and Ravel (Daphnis and Chloé Sunrise) exquisitely and imaginatively. Interesting to follow the scores while listening, (although I could not do this back then, as I didn’t have any scores or know how to get them, in fact I didn’t know you could even buy them.) He lead me into synths and midi, appreciation of orchestrations and around back to orchestral and classical.
I still have the albums. Brilliant.
