Does routing hit CPU hard?

I was working on a project the other day, things were pretty much maxxed out but still played smoothly, and then I simply grouped a couple of tracks without adding any effects and Cubase started stuttering heavily. I undid the group. Thought it was weird but I didn’t give it much thought.

Today I stumbled upon a random internet thread where a person said that routing in Cubase is a massive CPU hog. I’ve been going pretty liberal with it as I always thought it uses no CPU power at all! I have a few maxxed out projects that stutter and I’m looking for ways to improve performance so I wonder if ungrouping things can improve performance drastically…

Hello,
I increased the ram memory from 12 to 24 gigabytes,
telling myself that I was probably too greedy.
The stuttering problem persists.
I think I have to rethink my way of working.
Or there is a silver bullet.
On the other hand, I wonder if Windows 10 does not influence, with updates, firewalls etc …
