Dogs breakfast

what a dogs breakfast of installers authenticators various small apps download assistants required to get this thing running and keep it updated. thank god for password managers or else no chance of keeping this thing maintained . I have 0 idea of what does . what …
I just tried to run Halion 7 which is required ? manager said I don’t have license … but I do for Dorico 5 … which I bought as an upgrade been here since 3.5 intermittently .
am now downloading content iso 10.2 gig … hope I have room for all this stuff
is there some over view of what does what ?

You can find an overview of your licenses in your Steinberg account here.

HALion 7 is not required by Dorico; Dorico comes with the free version of HALion, which is called HALion Sonic. You won’t see a separate license for HALion Sonic (unless you have also downloaded and activated that separately) but your Dorico license includes the necessary license for HALion Sonic and the associated content.

thank you for your quick response … Daniel … I understand that a free version is supplied. have Halion sonic … would that be from Dorico 4 ? I just installed the latest update to Dorico . the huge iso 10 gigs download will those sound files be available to Halion Sonic ?

All the sounds supplied with Dorico use HALion.

HALion Sonic 7 came with Dorico 4.

Bear in mind that if you already have Dorico 3 or 4, then most of the sounds are already installed (except for the new Iconica Sketch and Groove Agent sounds).

So the total of the download won’t be “added” to your disk. (But of course you should always have plenty of free space on your system disk. You can move the samples to an external drive using the Steinberg Library Manager.)

When I update Dorico, I use the Download Assistant and click the “Install All” button. It seems simple enough and has never let me down, although I do know some have had occasional difficulties, I imagine, due to specific configurations of their computers.

thanks everyone for their comments and thoughts. I am now up and running … great to have some time free to experiment and learn … with such amazing technology software support and community
