If I hide the two staves I added to the score to manipulate cues, the two staves go away in Setup>Track Inspector, (Edit: Play>Track Inspector) so that there seems to be no way to mute them. Does this mean they will not play back? I am using NotePerformer. I believe I added the staves as sketch staves.
How did you hide them? Did you remove them from the layout? Then they won’t play back when you play that layout, because they’re not part of the layout.
(If you hid them with manual staff visibility, then they will play back – but they should also appear in Play mode.)
thanks for the response, @asherber I hid them in the score by unchecking them in the Setup mode:
When I do this, they disappear from the instrument list in Play mode and are no longer anywhere in the list.
If I unhide them, they reappear in the Track inspector list.
They are in the layout list in either case and called Treble staff 2 and Empty part, for some reason:
thanks, @asherber No, I didn’t get that message when I hid the two staves. And I can make the two staves show at will by rechecking the boxes, without any messages coming up, so I am assuming that I didn’t actually remove them from the flow.
If I had got that message, I would not have hit OK, because I don’t want to delete the contents of the two staves, which are necessary for certain of the cues in the parts.
To avoid getting that message, one must select Full Score only under Layouts and none of the other layouts and then select the flow itself under Flows, so that the check boxes appear and with them the ability to hide any of the staves without actually removing them from the flow. Or at least that is what I think is required. It took trial and error to figure it out.
If you do something else you get that message and can apparently mess up your work quite easily.
So since I am only hiding the two staves, I don’t understand why they do not appear in the Track Inspector after I hide them since I am not deleting them. They will reappear in the track Inspector when I make them show again in the score by rechecking the boxes.
The only thing I can think of is that since I think I selected them from the list as “sketch staves”, perhaps they have different behavior from normal staves?
What is Setup>Track Inspector???
Setup is about Players, Layouts and Flows.
Okay, from your screenshot I got a different impression, but it didn’t show the whole screen.
So it sounds like you selected the score layout in the right hand panel (turns bright blue) and then unticked the boxes for the two players on the left, which is what I guessed at first.
When you go to Play mode, you will only see the instruments that actually belong to the selected layout. With those two players deselected, they are no longer part of that layout.
So if they are no longer part of that layout, they do not play back? Is that correct?
I am confused because some of what I read in posts on this forum said that I had to mute the staves that were hidden or they would play back.
There is always Suppress Playback before hiding staves; would that work?

You did not hide the staves; you removed the players from the layout. These are two different things. The other posts are referring to the use of Staff > Remove Staff in Write mode.
By selecting the notes and then using the Suppress Playback property?
