Dorico 3 crashes very often for a number of reasons

Hi there. I’m experiencing a lot of crashes when using Dorico 3 on my new PC (up to 9/10 per day) on Windows 11. It can happen when opening the app, closing it, opening a new project, navigating to the print page, seemingly for anything. It just feels very unstable and causes the whole computer to “encounter a problem and need to restart”. Any suggestions on how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated. Dorico Diagnostics attached.

Hm, though some of the audio engine logs are incomplete (which most certainly indicates a crash), in the diagnostics there are no crash dump files at all, not from Dorico nor the VSTAudioEngine. Could you please have a look in your Documents folder, there shall be a subfolder Steinberg/crashes. Is there anything to be found in there? If so, please zip it up and post here. Thanks

Hi Ulf! Here is what I’ve found in that CrashDumps folder in Steinberg within documents:

New Compressed (zipped) Folder.zip (425 Bytes)

Thanks, but that file is from Cubase and already from September.
If Dorico does not create crash dump by itself, please do the following:

  • In the Windows search box, type “regedit” and hit Return, then click Yes when asked if you’re sure you want to allow the Registry Editor to modify your computer.
  • In the Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\
  • If you see a key in there called LocalDumps, then go inside it: otherwise, choose Edit > New > Key, and type “LocalDumps” as the name of the key.
Select the LocalDumps key and choose Edit > New > Key, and type “Dorico3.5.exe” as the name of the key.
  • Choose Edit > New > Expandable String Value, type “DumpFolder” as the name of the value and hit Return.
  • Double-click the “DumpFolder” label to open the editor dialog, and type “%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps” as the ‘Value data’, and hit Return.
  • Choose Edit > New > DWORD, type “DumpCount” as the name of the value and hit Return.
  • Double-click the “DumpCount” label to open the editor dialog, and type “A” (hexadecimal for 10) as the ‘Value data’, and hit Return.
  • Choose Edit > New > DWORD, type “DumpType” as the name of the value and hit Return.
  • Double-click the “DumpType” label to open the editor dialog, and type “1” as the ‘Value data’, and hit Return. (This chooses to create a minidump file.)

Then please use Dorico and bring it to crash. Create yet another diagnostics and post here.
Thank you very much
