You’re almost certainly not doing anything wrong, but if you’re able to create a new Steinberg ID with another email address, that might be worth a try.

Thanks, I created a second Steinberg ID and with that one I got a mail with the download link and activation code.

Because I’d rather not leave lying around redundant accounts of any kind, could I still request an account deletion request like suggested in this topic: remove steinberg account / software - Steinberg Lounge - Steinberg Forums ?

If so, when is it safe to do this? After the trial activation? Or should I wait until the trial period expires?

No, it’s an empty USB-eLicenser.

You can do it whenever you like, but you might find the emails sent over the course of the trial period useful (they point to some specific tutorials etc.), though if you’re already familiar with how previous versions of Dorico work you probably don’t need them. There’s no connection between the Steinberg ID you used to get the trial and the activation code itself, so you won’t hurt anything if you delete your new Steinberg ID while the trial is ongoing.
