Dorico 5.1.70 and Halion

Hi Folks.

I upgraded today to 5.1.70, along with other updates, and noticed that I heard no sounds using Halion HSO.

After a little head scratching, I figured out that the default CC11 expression map doesn’t activate the Halion HSO mod wheel which of course is fully down by default.

Changing the expression map to mod wheel of course rectified this.

My question: was it always this way? I routinely use Garritan (Aria), so my memory on HSO is spotty…

I seem to remember being able to leave it on CC11 with HSO, but maybe not…

Thanks!

By default, the HSO Expression Maps use CC1 (the Mod Wheel) for dynamics. HSO instruments don’t use the CC11 Expression Map.

Are you setting the Expression Maps manually, or using a template?

I could do both…

What I was wondering is if in earlier versions the default expression map was compatible with HSO.

It just seems to me it was, but I don’t remember.

Now, I just used the program preferences to load HSO and the HSO expression maps at start-up.

But, I don’t remember having to do that before the update.

The Expression maps for HSO instruments should be in every New document. You shouldn’t need to ‘load’ them. Nothing about HSO Playback has changed in the update.

What do you ultimately want to achieve, and how are you currently doing it?

My question was only if anything had changed in the new update. I know how to do what I need to do.

You said that nothing changed wrt halion and dorico, so my memory must just have been in error.

You should read the version history (available when you downloaded the update)
