Hi Folks
I have noticed that I can not achieve much in the way of dynamics contrast when using GPO5 in my ensemble arrangements.
When using Halion, or for that matter Kontakt, I can achieve satisfactory dynamic contrasts between, for example, pp and mf.
GPO 5 is configured correctly, and with the mod wheel chosen as the expression map, I can watch the mod wheel move when watching the instrument in the inspector…but somehow, I can’t increase the contrast.
I have experimented with the options in playback options (ie the dynamics curve) but it doesn’t seem to be very effective.
Any thoughts? BTW, I did try the published playback template for GPO, but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference.
Thanks!
Whoa…this is odd…
I was using a clarinet quartet score imported as a MXL file…
Just for giggle and grins, I made a new “score” with just chords in a clarinet quartet, used the same GPO5 settings, and noticed a satisfactory change in dynamics in moving through my “fake” score…
BTW, using HSO playback template; mod wheel dynamics…
Now I am even more confused…
Steve
Two quick tips to try…
From the play tab:
-
Library/Playback Options
-
Experiment with the Dynamics settings…
There are also options to directly gain stage and tweak the dynamic range and curve of HSO instruments. You’ll find these from the play tab, in Sonic/HALion instances.
Yes…I as said, tried that…little effect
Maybe try re-applying the GPO5 Playback template?
The dynamic range in Garritan isn’t brilliant, without modification, it has to be said.
Is this accurate? Have you tried using a playback template for GPO5.
Windows or Mac? ARIA player or sforzando? VST2 or VST3?
If you’re on Windows and trying to use the VST3 version of the ARIA plugin…it’s a mess. Use one of the 64bit VST2 versions, or go with the sforzando player.
I’ve heard the VST3 version for Mac is fine, but the one for Windows never worked properly for me.
When working with the notation versions of the newer Garritan “Orchestral Strings”, there’s an undocumented CC119 that can be used to tighten up the attack time a good bit (sample start offset). With the standard version of those bowed string instruments there’s a dedicated dial for it in the instrument control panel (not bound to any CC remote).
Hi
Thanks!
As I stated in my original post, I did try the published GPO template.
Besides it acting oddly (replacing some instruments and not others), when I finaly tuned it all the playback template did not have a significant effect.
Yes, as noted above…no discernible difference.
Sorry; silicon mac, OS 14, current aria player.
So is the problem fixed, or not?
Sorry, it wasn’t clear whether you had RE-applied the template.
