Hi, I’ve just begun having this problem recently. Dorico 5 now crashes whenever I create a new file and try to save it. If I open a previous file, it works absolutely fine. However, a new file saving will crash. I thought it was an update problem but it still persists on the latest version of the software.
Welcome to the forum @jleelayuvat and sorry to hear about your problem.
Would you please create a diagnostic report by selecting in Dorico’s menu the item Help > Create Diagnostic Report. The corresponding zip file please attach to a reply here or send to u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de.
The diagnostic report contains crash dump files which are essential for us to fix your problem. Thanks

Here they are!
@Ulf Hi, just tagging in case you didn’t see them.
Thank you in advance.
Hi @jleelayuvat, normally we don’t like bumping of threads here in the forum, but your case is justified, we must have missed it somehow.
Now I took a first look and there are no crash dumps contained in the diagnostics, on the other hand lots of incomplete log files, which suggests that Dorico did not crash but simply being frozen in because waiting for an audio engine that does not respond either.
Can you confirm that, please? So Dorico is not crashing with you but instead stopping to respond. Is that the symptom you have? Once this is clarified we will dig deeper into your case…
Hi thank you. I also didn’t want to bump it so I waited a while but I also need it for school. Sorry for that.
Yes, it just stops responding. I’ve been having a few problems with Steinberg and my ASIO Komplete Audio 2 Driver recently.
Let’s find out then…
First I’d like you to get the free tool Process Explorer and use it instead of Task Manager. Then when Dorico seemingly freezes in, please run Process Explorer (procexp64.exe). In the right hand, top corner is a search field where you can type “VST”. If you do, is a process called VSTAudioEngine.exe around,
and if so, is it shown as not-responding? If yes, please do highlight and select the VSTAuidoEngine process, do a right click on it and choose Create > Create Mini Dump. Follow the on-screen instructions and the resulting dump file please send to u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de.
Thanks a lot
