I am doing a concert band arrangement and the original is in A major. E flat instruments (like picc. clarinet, alto and baritone saxes) show key signature of 6 sharps. I would like to change that to 6 flats - might be slightly easier to read. Now, when using “independent key signature” I can change up to 8 flats (8b) but not to 9 flats, which would be the “correct” key. Colleague suggested doing d sharp-versions of the mentioned instruments but this will cause havoc when later in the piece key changes to C major. Any ideas? And maybe the possibility to use 9 flats could be nice to have in some update (as 8 flats already work)? (And no, cannot change the original key
)
If you’re just talking about the parts, you can use the transposition override. In Setup Mode, right hand column, right-click on the layout, choose Clef and Transposition Override, and instead of Eb for the sounding note, enter D#:
Then the part will be in Gb instead of F# (so 6 flats instead of 6 sharps)
I’m not sure to understand what you’re looking for, sorry! I was guessing you were talking about parts, but here you show a score. My suggestion was not to create another intrument in the score (a sax in D#), but to change the layout transposition. With C Majot after A Major, it would work:
But I probably misunderstood what you’re looking for.
That was my post not the OPs. Sorry if I hit the wrong reply button. ![]()
It was to illustrate what happens on a change to C. I don’t see any “havoc”.
Oh sorry, I think I’m a bit tired!
Let’s wait and see what the OP is actually looking for.
I was actually talking how it looks in score. But OK, I’ll try that d#-sax. and see what happens. Thanks!
I have the same issue as the OP. I’ve changed the transposition override and the part now correctly shows in G-flat, but the score is still in F-sharp. How do I change that?
Transposition overrides are per Layout. So, you have to apply it to both the Part and the Score.
Great! Thank you.
