Dorico 5 Iconica Playback Issue

Good afternoon,

I recently upgraded to Dorico 5 Pro from Dorico 4 Pro. When I wrote in Dorico 4 I typically used Noteperformer 4 for playback and this worked well. I upgraded to Dorico 5 with the intent of using the performances spaces option and Iconica Sketch library as my new “go to” setup. Unfortunately, if I load a project and try to change the playback library to “Iconica Sketch, HSO, Halion Sonic Sel, Olympus” I don’t get any sound through the software at all. No audio for auditioned sounds, upon playback or if scrub playback is in use.

Before making this post I reinstalled the Dorico 5 sound components again to see if this would correct the issue. So far it hasn’t.

I have also attached a screen shot of what the play menu displays for the channels when selected. I don’t think that the “!! Halion Sonic !!” label is normal… at least not the exclamation points.

Thanks!

The !! marks mean Dorico cannot find the Halion Sonic VST.

Hi @nathant.clark33, so I suggest you try to reinstall the HALion Sonic plug-in. Its the second item in the download list of the Steinberg Download Assistant for Dorico 5

I just installed the HALion Sonic plug-in after deleting the files that were previously installed. The download appeared to take a normal amount of time and ran to completion. Unfortunately, Dorico 5 still acts like it can’t find the content on my Mac. The “!!” points still display in the play tab and audio will not playback when auditioning sounds, using the transport controls or scrubbing.

Hi @nathant.clark33 , please create a new piano project from scratch and then do from Dorico’s menu Help > Create Diagnostics Report and attach the corresponding zip file to a reply here. Thanks

Good morning,

The template I try to select and the play menu routing menu are attached as screenshots below. It is “HALion Sonic” not the “SE” version.

The zip file you requested
Dorico Diagnostics.zip (521.3 KB)
is also attached.

Hi @nathant.clark33 , thanks for the data. Dorico does not recognize your HALion Sonic plug-in (for reasons I don’t know) but at least the older HALion Sonic SE.
Therefore, please go to the Dorico Preferences dialog and switch to the Play tab.
The second of the three options at the top you switch to use preferred and in the third you then specify HALion Sonic SE, then apply and close.
This is just temporarily, and to get you some sound out. We will later fix the HALion Sonic installation.
With the changed preferences, go and do the same thing again, open a new projet file from piano template and enter some arbitrary notes. Does playback then work?

Unfortunately it still does not work.

Please post a new diagnostics report then. Thanks

Here it is, thanks.

Thanks again for the data.
It’s strange, it still fails to load HALion Sonic SE, and I don’t know why.

Please try following:

  • Start with a new empty project again and add a piano player
  • Go to Play mode and choose ‘VST and MIDI’ tab on the left (red circled in my screenshot)
  • Click on the ‘+’ icon (orange circled in my screenshot)
  • Can you then select and create a HALion Sonic SE instance?

Sorry I am late getting back to you. This process did work. I was able to add a synth called “First Contact.”

Any suggestions as to how I should proceed since I can add the synth instance? Iconica playback still does not work.

I’ve sent you a private message via this board. Please check
