I wanted to clean up my instrument library/percussion maps/endpoints/settings, some of which I’ve been using since January of 2023.
After a complete uninstall of Dorico and all the included VST libraries, there are still a few percussion maps that remain, and I’m completely stumped as to how. These were from a custom template someone made for VDL (virtual drumline) that I then modified. I don’t remember saving them anywhere, and I deleted the appdata/roaming/steinberg/dorico folder. In addition to this, I ran revo uninstaller on dorico and removed any registry entries/additional program folders, then restarted my pc.
Re-installed dorico, and the percussion maps are still there!
I am unable to delete them as the trash bin icon is greyed out. “Reset to library defaults” does nothing.
I have no playback templates loaded except for the stock ones. Basically everything is stock. I have no endpoints at all if I go to create a new playback template.
Here is a screenshot of my Appdata/Roaming/Steinberg/Dorico5 folder:
Any advice/solutions? I really have no idea how this is persisting. Unless dorico is scanning for project files on my disk, reading the percussion instrument data associated with them or something?
Have a look and see whether you have anything in the DefaultLibraryAdditions folder. I forget exactly where that is on Windows, but I think you might find it inside C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Dorico 5.
Nothing there. But in c:\Program Files\Steinberg\Dorico5 there is a file called drumKitNoteMaps.xml.
This file had the suspect percussion mappings listed as: <DrumKitNoteMapDefinition>
I removed the entries, however, I am unable to import percussion mappings (from import library) into new projects now. The library import still works on existing projects (which I have plenty of).
No, you shouldn’t mess with the files in C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Dorico5: that’s the application’s default installation location, and any files in that folder are not designed to be modified by users. You may well encounter installation, uninstallation and/or updating problems if you modify files in that folder.
Should I completely re-install dorico then? So far it has been working. I figured out that in order to import the Virtual Drumline percussion mappings, I just need to use the template file that was included with those mappings.
Probably you can leave things alone for now. See what happens when the next update arrives. If you encounter any problems installing the update, uninstall, and then reinstall.
