Dorico 5 not playing back after Windows update (Note Performer 4)

Note Performer loads but not fully i.e. doesn’t get to the green playback button stage. I also can’t open any Note Performer mixers. I’ve tried restarting the computer and also assigning another playback template (which doesn’t load either) and then back to NP. And finally, when I close the file, Dorico vanishes and won’t restart instead of going back to the start window.

I had a quick look at the diagnostics and there are no crash files contained, neither of Dorico nor the audio engine. There are some freeze dumps of the audio engine though, but they only get created when the system appears to be unresponsive for a certain amount of time, but it is not crashing, it continues to run.
But I"ve also noticed that you are on NotePerformer (NP) 4.0 but already a 4.1 is out, so an update on that end also makes sense.
I’m currently not on a machine with debugging tools, but I will have a look at the freezedumps later and come back asap.

I do hope that the new NP version makes a difference, though it will be most unlikely. I loaded the freeze dumps into the debugger and they show a known pattern in our audio engine. It’s a race condition and the main thread is deadlocked waiting for other threads. So this has primarily nothing to do with NP. Also, even though we know this pattern, we don’t have a fix for it, yet. It happens only on very few machines and so far we could not reproduce it in-house so far.
