I intent to migrate, possibly tomorrow or the day after, from my existing MacBook Pro M2 pro to MacBook Pro M4 Pro, what is the right method for migrating my Dorico 5 Pro? Can someone advise me please.
I’d recommend using Apple’s Migration Assistant first of all, which gets the best result quickly.
However, it’s likely that complex apps like Dorico, which install numerous components all over the system, still won’t work properly, and may need to be reinstalled. So, start with the Steinberg Download App and go from there.
Then it’s just a question of using one of your activations for the new Mac. You have 3 in total.
Thanks for the prompt reply benwiggy,
Since I will be trading in the old MacBook Pro I suppose I should first deactivate Dorico 5 Pro on the old Mac prior to erasing all contents on the laptop?
Yes, though you can deactivate it from your account on the Steinberg website.
Note that on a modern Mac, you only need to go to System Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Erase All Content and Settings, which will launch the “Erase Assistant”.
DO NOT erase the entire disk in Recovery and reinstall the OS. Erasing the entire disk can ‘brick’ the Mac, as there are several other partitions that are crucial to the running of the Mac.
All your data – apps, settings, documents – is on a separate volume from the OS, and you just need to wipe the Data volume. (Same as on an iPad or iPhone.)
thanks benwiggy
yes I use the Mac “transfer or reset” function for erasing all contents.
