I downloaded and installed the free version of Dorico SE. I see my Roland GX 300 listed in the Dorico midi devices. I can play notes on the keyboard and see them appear in Dorico when recording. However, I cannot figure out how to get any sound on the output side. I am using the laptop internal speakers.
When recording I hear the metronome, but on playback hear nothing. Any guidance is appreciated. I am migrating from Finale, and Dorico is a bit different.
First of all, when you can hear the metronome, that means Dorico’s audio engine is working, which at least shows there is no profound problem with it. In that case I fear that the tutorial videos that Janus posted may not be so useful, since you have sound coming out. But there is one thing that needs to be clarified first:
Do you expect Dorico to send MIDI data to your Roland GX300, so that that one makes sound, or do you expect Dorico itself to produce the sound via it’s own audio engine? Depending on that the advice will become completely different.
I am trying to send the sound to Dorico for playback through the computer.
I have also watched about half of the Windows tutorial video and so far the preferences are set according to the instructions. Also, if it helps with the diagnosis, I opened one of the sample projects, and no sound is heard during playback.
Looks like the presets of the Etude sound library are missing. Therefore try to reinstall that one using the Steinberg Download Assistant.
Once done that, reboot the machine, start Dorico and create a project from solo piano template. Enter some arbitrary notes, do they make sound when hitting the Play button?
If not, please post another diagnostic report.
Furthermore, if you go to Play mode and then choose from the menu Play > Playback Template… and in the dialog that pops-up then, if you click on the Show All Factory button, which templates turn up in the list then?
