Greetings all! March 12, 2026 here and I just DL’d Dorico 6.2.0.6088 on my M1 MacBook Air (16GB RAM, 1TB SSD) … this is the comp I use at my office.
It keeps crashing and/or freezing needing to FORCE QUIT.
Also, in the (only) 3 Projects I’ve been able to Open, the VOLUMES have ALL gone down to the whole -6 dB default that Dorico seems to think is necessary.
I have my other Macs at home that I have yet to upgrade (they’re still at 6.1.something.something.something). I guess I won’t get any work done today here at the Office.
Is there any way to DOWNGRADE this Mac to 6.1. something.something.something? I don’t see the 6.1.something.something.something on the Steinberg Download “Assistant”.
Mac OS Tahoe doesn’t seem to prompt me to generate Crash Reports for NON Apple Apps. So no crashed to save or report on my end. Dorico won’t even stay open long enough to crash since I started this new Topic as I’ve had to Force Quit instead (sorry, no FORCE QUIT 90’s references!). Is there a way to (being serious here) FORCE Crash Report?
Might the issue be with the newest Mac OS Tahoe 26.3.1 which this M1 MBA is currently updated? My M3 MBA & M1 MacStudio are still on Sequoia (because Tahoe has been buggy for me)?

Since I’ve been with Dorico Pro since Dorico 3.5, and I have I’m assuming I can download Dorico 5 via the Download Assistant? Would there be any issues with opening my Dorico 6 projects with D5 for the meantime?
Just re-opened and I got the “Recover Auto-saved Projects” which, when I clicked “Recover Selected Projects” in previous versions, it corrupted the file which is why I always create versions (on my own) so I can go back to a previous version (again, on my own).
In any case, yes I was able to have Dorico auto-generate a Diagnostic Report, then it froze again, but I waited 3 minutes and the Beach Ball went away; no reason to actually celebrate, but it right itself.
Which of the folders of the Diag Report should I attach? In the “Crashes” Folder, there is VSTAudioEngine6…. file .
Hi @Daniel_Delgado , please attach everything, i.e. the whole zip file. If it is too big to upload here, please send instead directly to u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de
Thanks
from the logs it looks like this:
There are no crash files, but the audio engine somehow gets into trouble while Dorico is trying to do an auto save. For reasons that we have to find out, the audio engine can not grab the current status of the VST plug-ins and then Dorico is waiting indefinitely and everything is blocked.
Does this happen with every project file or only some? What if you create a new project from piano template and leave it open until the first autoSave kicks in?
Additionally, if you can reproduce the problem, please go to the Activity Monitor.app (under /Applications/Utilities ). In the top middle of the Activity Monitor is a round icon with 3 dots inside, do a right click on that and then choose the menu item Create Spindump (or similar). The output please save to a plain text document, zip it up and post here.
Thanks a lot
Hello all on the way to a gig so I don’t have my Mac. I’ll upload when I get home. As I recall my crashes and freezes were happening when I was pulling up the OPUS player and the VSL player would open instead which I thought was weird as there wasn’t a VSL instance in that project so the VST thing seems to be one of the issues. Also, I was using my AirPods at the office where the computer in question was crashing 6.2.6088 was having trouble finding them and beach ball. So that was another issue.
Also why did all of my volumes in the mixer move to minus 6 decibels? I know this is the default behavior but i bump up my volumes on this and all of my projects.
