Dorico 6.2.30: VSL Playback Template dialog crash on macOS 27; Full Disk Access workaround

Hello Dorico team,

I encountered a crash when opening Play → Playback Template… after creating a VSL playback template with Vienna Assistant’s Dorico Wizard. Removing and recreating the template changed the behaviour, and granting Dorico Full Disk Access resolved it on my setup.

Environment

  • Dorico SE 6.2.30
  • macOS 27.0
  • Vienna Assistant 1.2.617
  • VSL Synchron Fazioli F308

Sequence I tested

  1. Dorico did not have Full Disk Access in macOS System Settings.
  2. I removed the VSL playback template. The Playback Template dialog then opened normally.
  3. I created the VSL playback template again using Vienna Assistant’s Dorico Wizard.
  4. Opening Play → Playback Template… caused the dialog to appear briefly, followed immediately by Dorico quitting/crashing. This happened when opening the dialog, before I could apply a template.
  5. I granted Dorico Full Disk Access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access, quit Dorico, and relaunched it. The dialog then worked with the VSL template present.

Additional observation

Full Keyboard Access under Accessibility → Keyboard was already off when the crash occurred.

Expected behaviour

The Playback Template dialog should open without crashing. If a required resource cannot be accessed, an explanatory error would be helpful.

The Full Disk Access result makes me suspect a file-access/permissions interaction, but I have not confirmed the cause through crash-log analysis or established whether it is specific to macOS 27. This is an observed workaround on my setup, not a claim that VSL templates generally require Full Disk Access.

Could the team investigate or advise what targeted diagnostic information would be most useful? I have not attached raw diagnostics here because they may contain personal information; please advise on a suitable private way to provide them if needed.

Thank you!

Could you please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here? That should allow us to see what actually happened.

In general you shouldn’t need to enable Full Disk Access for Dorico. It should, like other apps on your system, prompt you for access to new folders when it first needs them.

Hi, thanks for your reply! I have created the diagnostic zip files following your instructions, but after inspection of the resulting zip file, it seems that it includes more than just crash logs: it also contains private information such as my macOS home folder path, names & paths of my recently opened Dorico projects, system and incident identifiers, etc. So I prefer not to disclose it as-is publicly. Do you accept a redacted copy of that file to be uploaded here , or do you have a private way for me to send the original zip file to you?

@rkprime
You can send it to Daniel either by Private Message (accessible by clicking the avatar/name in his message above) or by email to

[I think I have that email correct. Just substitute the symbols for the parenthesized text.]

Thanks, @Derrek, and sorry for the delayed follow-up. I was away on vacation and have only just caught up with the replies.

I’ve now emailed the original diagnostic ZIP privately to Daniel, together with a link to this thread. Thank you, @dspreadbury, for looking into it.
