That’s because the Steinberg Library Manager specifies the installation folder, as Ulf said..
I booted up Dorico 6 and it by-passed my audio setup through my Mac Studio rather than my monitor speaker. Can you please help me to learn how I can bypass this situation? I am rather new to Dorico.
Thank you so much,
Marshall
Yet, it was not cued during the entire process. I had to “Open” the downloaded files to get them installed. So, there was no way to even suggest the installation folder as best I can tell. There was no automated installation whatsoever - very odd and annoying.
Check your audio setup in Preferences.
I never had to do that. But then long ago, when I decided to put all my sound files on a separate SSD, I set the default location for installation in the Steinberg Library Manager. (sound familiar?)
OK. I just wasn’t as far along as you. I hadn’t yet had a need to set a default location for libraries before this inglorious download so I hadn’t figured that out yet.
Not all of us are familiar with all aspects of everything Dorico as you might be which is why we appreciate your kind words of support. All of my sound libraries are now on an external SSD and life is better, if not good.
Hi @hkjo20,
It’s easier to get to that setup by simply invoking Edit > Device Setup via the menu. In there you can switch drivers and via the Device Control Panel button can do further device configurations.
Oh, that’s good to know! Makes things a little smoother for me, who use Dorico on a laptop and need to get into that setting whenever I add/remove external speakers. Which it turns out is a lot more often than I’d guessed.
(I would love for Dorico to adjust to those changes automatically, like for example Logic does. Or at least pick the internal speakers if the previously used external speakers aren’t available when starting up instead of having to sound output at all. But knowing this shortcut already makes me a little happier.)
One can set up an aggregate Audio device on a Mac that includes all of the possibilities of output so that Dorico always sends it where you want it. For example, if you want to include internal speakers, external headphones (typical for connecting external speakers) or even a Bluetooth connection, etc. That way when you move about to different outputs, you will not have to choose that output again if Dorico doesn’t choose it. Just set Dorico to use the aggregate device.
Thank you, Ulf.
I’m playing your demo, Tiumphant …, and the sounds all play through the Ma Studio. Do you have any advice? It’s probably a very basic understanding of the Dorico system.
Thanks,
Marshall
Hi @hkjo20 , I don’t get you, can you please reconfirm?
Where do you want your sound to come out from? What is your issue now?
Thanks
The library sounds needed to play your first Dorico demo piece, “Triumphant…” play through my Mac studio and not my monitor speakers.
Do I make changes in the Mac sound output in system settings?
Thank you for any help you can provide.
Marshall
Hi Marshall,
no, you need to go in Dorico to the menu item Edit > Device Setup, in there you’ll find a drop down list with ASIO drivers/devices. One of them should be your monitor speaker, or not? If you can’t find it, please make a screenshot and send me.
Thank you
