I’ve had to do a clean install of the OS on my Mac today and have installed Dorico 6. I’ve also downloaded all of the additional content, which is currently in sub-folders in my downloads folder. I’d like move all of these files to an external audio drive. How can I do this so Dorico knows where they are?
Also, the Steinberg Download assistant seemed to think that I had some of those (like Iconica Sketch and Indian Drum basics) previously on the computer from earlier Dorico installs, but I am not able to find these in a search of my computer. I’ve re-downladed them and everything is now in the same Steinberg folder in my downloads. I’d like to avoid having multiple copies of Iconica etc. on my computer. How can I find the existing copies. remove them, and only use the newly downloaded ones? Thanks!
Thanks! I’ve just tried using the Library Manager to move the files to an external drive and I keep getting the message that it failed. Any idea why this is happening?
Hi @Binkeys , you said that you have the sound content installed in your Downloads folder. That is already evil for a start. That is the correct download location, but the installer should normally install the contents stuff in /Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Content.
Once you have that correctly set up, you can move the libraries around.
To check where the content is really installed to, launch the Steinberg Library Manager and click on the Details buttons on the right side. What does that say?
Did you use the Download Assistant? If so, that should have installed everything; but it does leave the installers in the Downloads folder afterwards, which you can normally delete.
The OS should never need reinstalling. It’s on a separate, read-only, secure, signed and sealed volume. At worst, you only need to erase the “Data” volume, which is where all your stuff goes.
I checked the Library Manager and it looks like the installer put a duplicate of anything that already existed on my computer into the downloads folder, instead of replacing it. I removed those older files using Library Manager and re-downloaded those files and they installed correctly, leaving just empty sub-folders in my downloads folder. The one exception is that the library manager won’t let me remove (and re-install) the HALion Sonic factory content which was installed on April 15th, 2013. The library manager shows that content as being 1.46 GB.
Whe I try to delete it, I get a message that reads: “HALion Sonic Factory Content Cannot be deleted. Make sure that the files are accessible and that all processes that may use this library are closed.” As best I can tell, there is nothing open that uses HALion. The Halion Sonic Selection (slightly different name) content downloaded and installed to my downloads folder. Incidentally, the Steinberg Download assistant says that it’s 3.35 GB, but the folder in my downloads is only 2 GB. How can I get this content where it ought to be? Thanks!
When you get the message “HALion Sonic Factory Content cannot be deleted”, do you try to do that deletion in the Library Manager? I’d also try with a reboot to make sure nothing really holds on to file handles or other stuff.
