I have been unable to get Dorico 6 to load for several weeks now. The audio engine fails during startup. I emailed my crash reports to Dorico and they wrote back and basically said “The problem is with a file called audioses.dll, but we don’t know what that is or does, so you need to contact Microsoft.” How does one 'contact’ Microsoft about a .dll file? Some of us aren’t tech savvy. I’ve completely uninstalled all Steinberg products from my computer, then reinstalled. I’ve reinstalled Windows 11 twice. I don’t know what to do. I’m at the point of just abandoning Dorico as my music writing software after finally mastering it, just because I haven’t worked on any projects for weeks. Anyone have this problem? Any suggestions? Anyone have knowledge of audioses.dll?

Welcome to the forum.
A little patience may be needed as @Ulf , the Dorico technical wizard, is probably asleep (he’s in Germany)
Also from me, welcome to the forum @bandchris , and sorry for the trouble you have.
Audioses.dll? That rings something in me, but I need to do some research again. And I will also now look at your diagnostics and the crash files. Stay tuned, I’ll be back!
Hi @bandchris , I’m back.
So let’s try something then. Please go to C:\Program Files\Steinberg and in there is a folder called Asio; that folder please rename to _Asio and then download and install an another generic ASIO driver from here. That FlexASIO is public domain and can be just used.
With these two prerequisites in place, start up Dorico again and see how it behaves.
If it does launch, load a small project and see if you can play it back. If it stays mute, go to the menu item Edit > Device Setup and in there check which driver is currently selected. Can you switch over to FlexASIO, and if so, does playback then work?
Thanks
Hello @Ulf,
I was able to download FlexASIO. Now Dorico 6 will open, however there is no playback. I open the Device Setup window, and FlexASIO is the only option, so it is already selected. However, when I click on the Device Control Panel button, there are no devices, instead I get taken to a website: FlexASIO/CONFIGURATION.md at flexasio-1.10b · dechamps/FlexASIO · GitHub
Yes, FlexASIO does not have a Control Panel, you set it up via a config file.
But what if you change the sample rate to 48 kHz ? Does Playback then work?
And there is also yet another free, generic ASIO driver called ASIO4All that you can download from here. This one is also worth trying.
Hi @Ulf -
Thank you for the advice. I did as you suggested and changed the sample rate for FlexASIO and was able to play my projects using both computer audio and headphones. Also, Dorico 6 has successfully opened multiple times now without a crash.
Thank you for your assistance -
