Finally bit the bullet and upgraded to D6. It’s been a nightmare so far. MIDI input constantly stops working, as does Noteperformer playback. Restarting Dorico sometimes fixes, but not always. Not to mention having to deal with a dialog box to allow a connection to streamdeck every…single…time. Feeling like a distinct downgrade so far.
I don’t experience the same issues. I also use MIDI input and NotePerformer.
Perhaps one of the team might be able to guide you as to what to do next.
You should probably upload your diagnotic report here, as this is certainly not nomal.
Please describe your hardware.
I run Dorico 6 on my Ryzen 5 laptop with 20 GB RAM and no issues at all.
I hate to constantly be that guy, but have you rebooted your computer since the install? These days, people go for months at a time without rebooting, but I’m from the generation where that was an almost daily occurrence. Sometimes hourly. ![]()
Most people are amazed at what a timely reboot can accomplish.
What you are experiencing is definitely not normal… I’ve only been prompted to connect my stream deck, one time in a year and a half. If you are constantly losing media connection, have you checked the manner in which your device is connected? Sometimes old USB hubs can be unreliable and the port can time out. That’s not a Dorico issue, per se. I also wonder if there is something odd about how you have playback configured. I never lose noteperformer whenever I use it. Does your project go entirely mute? Or are you just not hearing things audition as you try and do note entry? Are you trying to receive audio out via an interface that is plugged into the same USB hub as your midi keyboard?
There are lots of possible causes for these things. I know it can be cold comfort when you are the one experiencing problems, but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel and you know that what’s happening is not at all normal, which hopefully means it can be fixed.
No problems of this sort here (on Mac). No problem keeping Stream Deck connected.
The first 3 months I used Dorico I hated it. Every time a problem came up it seemed like there was no solution for it. Eventually, I created a folder and every time I had a problem I would google it or YouTubed it and threw that information in that folder. Over time I wouldn’t have to look up things so much. Now, finding a solution is second nature and I find Dorico is much faster than Finale, but the learning curve is a beast!
