Dorico 6 keeps crashing (audio engine issue?)

Hi,

For a few days now, I have been experiencing Dorico crashing after just a few minutes. It seems connected to the audio engine. Once the file has crashed, the Play menu gets grayed out, and upon subsequent opens, this remains the case.

I’ve tried disconnecting my interface (Clarett 8Pre) entirely, same issue.

I’ve tried starting a brand new file, same issue.

I’ve tried switching to Built-in Output in Device Setup.

I’ve tried opening it in Dorico 5, same issue.

I’m running Dorico 6.2.10 on a MacBook Pro M1 Max (macOS 14.8.2) and have attached the diagnostic bundle.

Any help is much appreciated. I’m unable to continue my projects currently.

I’ve also noticed the VSTAudioEngine running at 16%-20% CPU constantly even when idle

Hi @jornswart , thanks for the diagnostic report.

It appears that you have rapid connections/disconnections of MIDI devices. If you disconnect all MIDI, does that stabilise Dorico?

Another question is, why is there the frequent MIDI plugging with you? Is it maybe a lose connection or hardware fault?

Hi @Ulf, thank you so much for taking the time to look into this. You were correct: I found out it was a mio USB to MIDI cable that I always keep connected to my USB port, and sometimes plug into certain keyboards. When I disconnected it, the crashing stopped completely. Perhaps a faulty cable or not plugged in correctly.

But good to hear that that was indeed the cause.
