I’m having some trouble getting the new Marching Percussion features to properly play back. I have HALion installed as well as the new Marching Percussion Basics option.
When I switch to the new Marching Percussion playback template, Dorico automatically defaults all drumline instruments to the HALion General MIDI kit & Yamaha XG percussion map. I can manually load the new marching sounds in HALion, but none of the sounds play back properly. This persists with new project files as well as working with older ones. I’m not sure what else I need to install or if there are any other settings I need to double check.

Double-check that you really have applied one of the playback templates with Marching Perc. in its name. Have you customised the default marching kit instruments? If so, try quitting Dorico and temporarily moving your userlibrary.xml file out of the way (it’s in ~/Library/Application Support/Steinberg/Dorico 6) so that you can be sure you’re using a factory default kit when you start a new project.
I’ve double checked everything on my end as of now. The playback template is set to “Marching Percussion” (I don’t see any other options or “Marching Perc.” or similar), but I’m still running into the same problems. The marching kit instruments are the default ones, and there’s no library XML file in the file path.
That’s not the right playback template. It doesn’t have the factory icon, so that’s one you’ve made yourself.
It looks like almost all of the factory playback templates are missing, which means that one or more items of sound content isn’t installed on your system. Dorico will be warning you about this when you run it, unless you’ve suppressed all those warnings.
Quit Dorico.
Run Steinberg Download Assistant, select Dorico Pro 6 on the left-hand side, and on the right-hand side click Install All and wait for all of the progress bars to go green and show a tick/check inside them.
Then restart Dorico and look for a playback template with Marching Perc. (note the abbreviation) in its name and the factory icon.
