Dorico 6 no licence found

I have a valid l license for Dorico 5. It has always worked. Just installed Dorico 6 and it refuses to start with no license found errors. Not entirely good.

What to do?

Is this an update one must pay for?

Well yes. Full number versions are paid upgrades (thanks Ben), they have always been (except for those who bought the previous version within the grace period).

Thank you. I did not read that in the announcement. I suppose they expect us to know that. Perhaps could have been more explicit.

Every major number – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 – is a paid upGRADE. (And then there was 3.5 as well.)

A large upDATE changes the first decimal number – 4.2, or 5.1 – and small updates have a second decimal β€œ.10” number, like 5.0.20. These are all free (after the initial upgrade purchase).

This is pretty common for software purchases.

I know I know, but I did not realize in this case. I can offer no rational explanation for my lapse. [I only worked in software development for 40 years.] Sorry for the noise.

As far as I can tell, Steinberg calls it an update if you stay in the same edition (Elements vs. Pro) regardless of whether it’s a free or a paid update. If you step up to a larger edition it’s an upgrade. At least that’s the wording on the shop page.
