As I stated in the recent thread about favourite new features, I consider the improved condensing and typography the most promising - in fact, I’m wanting to try the new version of Dorico just for them. I currently have Dorico 5 and I have some questions about upgrading.
Does the new version continue to support Windows 10 (specifically build 21H2, as that’s what I currently have)?
The product announcement mentions a grace-period upgrade for recently-activated copies of Dorico 5. I purchased my copy several months ago, but I only got to start using it last month because of a computer upgrade. (I don’t remember if I tried activating it on my earlier machine, but it wouldn’t run in any case.) Do I still qualify for the grace-period upgrade?
It supports Windows 10, anything build 1809 or newer.
The activation date is counted as the date that the download access code that you received in the email and web confirmation page when you bought it is entered into the Steinberg Download Assistant. So it depends on whether you entered that download access code when you first bought it or whether you waited until last month. If you qualify for the grace period update you should see some indication of this in your MySteinberg portal.
(emphasis mine) This complicates things even more…as I’ve never used the Download Assistant. I’ve always preferred to have the full installation files, so that I don’t need to download more than once for multiple computers.
I did check my Self-Service page, which I assume is the same as what you’re referring to. No sign of Dorico 6 there. But the OS support is nice to have; I hope that that continues.
If you didn’t use the Steinberg Download Assistant at all, you might have logged into the MySteinberg portal and used the “Redeem Download Access Code” option there. To my knowledge that is the only other way to enter the code.
BTW, the Download Assistant keeps the files on your disk, so you can copy them to another computer. It doesn’t delete them automatically after installation is done.
