To win, you must have only played with the opposite sex (or sex of your choice).
I don’t understand the point you are trying to make.
Sorry … the topic of this post is about how Dorico can best update/change the Sign Post implementation in future Dorico releases, and my attached photo is showing that the Sign Post is also colliding with the Note Input “Carrot” (and System Text, and Tempi, and sometimes the System Track) in a poorly implemented manner and in an unintuitive way (again, see the Screenshot) that is not logical that needs improvement. Again, Dorico is a work in progress and GREAT, but this post is to Request Features and Changes.
“Holy Carrot and Note Slashes Can’t Be Seen Unless You Zoom In 500% Batman” refers to the old USA “Batman” TV Series of the 1960’s (with Adam West) that dramatized Batman (& Robin) in a very “campy” and un-serious way. In that 1960’s TV Show, Robin had a catch phrase where he would say phrases like, “Holy electrocution Batman!” when both Batman and Robin were electrocuted, or, when they were attacked by a spider, Robin would say, “Holy Arachnophobia Batman!” Hence, I was making a campy, fun and light hearted reference to such silliness to describe my frustration in the problematic implementation of Sign Posts in Dorico so as to conjure up humor rather than rage. I was shooting for levity, but, as my wife says, “Its more like smart ass-ery and sarcasm!” My students these days rarely get my humor, so, yes, I need to keep it stoic.
I am a Gen X’er who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s … we’re the Simpsons, Jackass, Impractical Jokers Generation. Certain generations do not find such humor funny, but rather unpleasant and annoying.
Might there be millennials or boomers here? If so, I apologize, but isn’t this preppy irony an amazing find?!?!? As Gen X’ers, we often referee and peace-keep arguments between Boomers n 'Lennials. I’ll keep my comments to a very serious tone from now on.
As a tail end boomer, I enjoy my Gen X friends and find my Millennial friends enlightening. It’s all good. Now, that Sign Post implementation still needs an update…
Just to clarify a little: the “carrot” is actually spelled “caret”, and it’s the vertical orange line on the downbeat, which seems perfectly visible to me. And by “note slashes”, do you mean the rhythmic grid above the staff, which is partially hidden by both the signpost and the tempo mark?
My hat’s off to your wife. She exhibits great wisdom.
I’ve been using Dorico for years and one of the first keyboard shortcuts I created was ctrl+S to toggle hide/show signposts. I don’t recall if something else was there by default but usually when I want to create a convenient shortcut I assess whether or not the thing I might be replacing is something I need that often. If it’s something I rarely use, replace it I will.
At least in my case I toggle signposts off and on all day so I find the shortcut I created to be non-twistery.
Ctrl -S is usually the default shortcut for “Save” – in Windows, at least, if I recall correctly. With macOS that’s not an issue, as it uses the Cmd ⌘ key.
Right, I’m a mac user but that makes sense. My bigger point for OP is that there’s always a simpler shortcut that can be freed up for something you probably rarely use or need, in lieu of something you might want to use all the time. Sometimes you gotta get creative but I find there’s always an opening. That’s my shortcut philosophy anyway - I know some people are software purists and refuse to change anything from the default but IMHO life is too short to suffer like that haha.
I can only say I absolutely agree with you on this. It’s been happening a lot recently with what I’ve been working on and I have to say I have found it infuriating.
Is a version 7 coming? What makes you think so?
Well, they’ve been publishing a major release roughly every 1,5–2 years, version 6.0 came out in April 2025 and there’s no sign of them going out of business, so I would expect that it’s in the works. But they never disclose release dates or new features before an update is out.
For many of us who migrated to Macs 25+ years ago, if we see CTRL plus something, we automatically use the CMD key on our Mac. Let’s not confuse ourselves with using the CONTROL key on Macs, please…or at least spell it out as it is on our keyboards…![]()
“Caret”, GOT IT! How dumb of ME!
Dorico Admins, PLEASE hear our PLEAS!
Rest assured that the developers take note of every post on this forum, but ultimately it is not a democracy. You’ve made your case.
I never Democratically said, “OBEY MY VOTE!”, I, as a subject to over-Lords instead PLEADED via asking them to PLEASE hear my pleas.
