Dorico changes score when going from write/engrave to print

I keep making edits in engrave mode and then I try to print them but as soon as I move to print all my edits disappear. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m worried I’m going to have to redo the score in a new file if I can’t figure something out. The first pic is my edits in engrave mode, the 2nd, is once I click print, and the 3rd is once I go back to write mode after print. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Pics 2 and 3 are out of order so please swap them in your head

Very odd.

Can you attach a small version of this project?

Make sure to save the file before attempting to print–just in case.

If the problem persists, try saving the file under a new name.

Just attached it! The problem is mainly present on the first page of the score. You’ll also notice that if you move any of the items on the first page that dorico will automatically scramble around other items as well.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried both of these and neither worked :frowning:

You have Letter under Layout Options->Page size, but it’s set to A3 under print. Does changing the printer page size to letter make a difference?

Hmmm that might be it. I’m not sure how to change the printer page size to letter under print though and google isn’t helping. Would you mind telling me how to do that?

At the bottom here, where it says A4. Under the Print tab.

Jesper

I think maybe that’s picking up the page size from your preferences; when I open the file, it says Letter.

But @WilliamT – I’m also not able to reproduce what you have in your original post. When I switch back and forth between modes, those feathered beams seem to stay the same.

Yes, I meant in the image.

Jesper

Huh, that’s interesting because when I open that menu up the A4 doesn’t appear. It’s blank as shown below. When I try to click on the drop down nothing happens. Do you know what I should do? Also thank you for your help!

Do you have any printers installed on your computer? Since the first dropdown under Printer is blank, I’m guessing that you don’t.

If you don’t have an actual printer, you might try installing a freeware PDF printer, just so that Dorico has something to refer to in this screen. There’s at least one other issue that occurs when no printers are available, so maybe the fact that you have no printer is causing your initial issue as well.

I just downloaded a free trial of adobe acrobat. I didn’t have any printers installed before that. For some reason adobe isn’t showing up as an available printer though. Would you mind telling me how to set up the pdf printer with dorico?

Are you on Windows or Mac?

If you’re on Mac, other users have had success with ‎PDF Printer Lite App - App Store

On Windows, try the free version of PDF-XChange Co Ltd :: PDF-XChange Printer Lite: Print PDF Files from Windows Applications

Ok so I used the pdf printer and switched the page set up in print to US Letter but unfortunately that did not do the trick. Do you have any other suggestions? I attached a video that might help find a solution. Whenever I move items on the screen it scrambles everything else back to the same position it wants to set everything in in print mode.

What version of Dorico are you using?

Edit: Oh, it’s v6 – I see Fill Mode in the status bar.

Could it be a Font issue?

Jesper

I just tried changing the font and that didn’t solve the problem either :frowning:

On v6.1.10 macOS15.7.3 M1 silicon here. When I open the project all modes display as in your 2nd (print mode) image with the messed up beams. I changed Layout Options->Page size to A4 and beams seem ok but box and duration bracket in bar 3 not. Also mf in bar 7. View looks same for all modes. I don’t have any printers installed.
