Dorico Copyright Text Spacing Issue

Hello!

I am having trouble adjusting the size of the text frame (the green box) that contains a multi-line copyright text without relying on constant trial and error.

In Engrave Mode, when editing the Master Page, all I see is the single-line token, like {@projectCopyright@}. Because of this, I have to guess the required vertical height of the frame, expand the space, save the master page, exit, and then go back to Write or Engrave mode to check if the space is correct. I never get it right on the first attempt, requiring several attempts to adjust it perfectly.

Is there a better, more precise method to determine the required height of the text frame for a multi-line token that only shows as one line in Engrave Mode?

P.S. I am using AI to translate this message into English.

Thank you for your help!

Hi!

What you can do is set up the frames exactly the way you want in Engrave Mode > Frames. Open the Properties panel and take a screenshot (or write down) the values you’ve adjusted — for the Copyright frame, and possibly for the Music frame if you want to move it up.

This will create a Page Override (red triangle). Right-click and choose Remove Page Overrides.

Then go to the Page Template Editor, enter the values you noted down.

Then apply your page template.

It’s not that simple, but it’s still faster than going back and forth between template and page when you need precise adjustments. And Dorico doesn’t (yet) allow you to turn an overridden page into a Page Template — it has been requested here quite often!

I would suggest making the text frame that contains the copyright quite tall, and making its vertical alignment “bottom”.

That way, the copyright text will always sit on the bottom of the frame, and therefore align with the bottom page margin, but can extend as high up as it needs to to accommodate the token contents.

Thank you very much! That’s a clever way to do it. It will help me out a lot.

Thanks for the help. I think I get it. But won’t setting the copyright text frame too high cause the text to collide with the music/score?

In any case, Charles’s message is already going to help me. I just need to first make the adjustment by creating a page override, see the exact measurement, and then undo it, before going back and applying the same measurement to the page override.
