Hi, I run into a problem.
Dorico doesn’t save changes I made in cc 11, when I use “Lock Key Editor to Selection”.
I place a link to the file, where this problem occurs.
My steps:
In the files I select violins 1, violins 2 and violas
I use the “Lock Key Editor to Selection” (by shortcut tapping: j j enter)
I made in the Key Editor with the line tool in bar 3 and 4 a line up and line down (crescendo and decrescendo), the same in bar 5 and 6.
I use the “Toggle Key editor Locked View” command in J (I made shortcut k for this)
I check if violins 1, violins 2 and violas have the changes I made, and I see them.
I save and close the file.
I reopen the file and the changes has been disappeared.
Do I miss here something, or is this a bug? Any help is appreciated!
@mmka I opened your file followed the above procedure changing all string instrument CC11 curves.
After opening all the changes I made were still there. They just looked a bit different than the drawn in thick curves with the pencil. Instead they show dots with a thin line connecting them but overall they reflect the curve I had drawn.
(you do have to scroll down to the strings however when you open the file to see the curves. Dorico opens at the top empty staff. So not at the same location in the string section where you saved it)
Thanks, @mavros, for taken the effort to look in my file. I really appreciate that.
What I understand, you made the changes with the pencil tool. I know that when I use the pencil, what I made in the cc line, changes a little bit (less dots), but it is there, when I close and reopen the file. (And indeed I have to select a note of a particular part to see the cc lines of that part.)
But I should prefer to use the line tool (with a just a dot at the start and a dot at the end).
And then the lines are gone, when I reopen the file. And I don’t know if that is by design or a bug. (I tend to think that it is a bug).
Hi @mmka I can confirm when I use the line tool, the lines are not there anymore when you open your saved project. It is not CC11 specific. I tried it on CC2 and it is the same there. I also tried a combination first the pencil and then the line tool to draw in some lines. When you open the project again the pencil lines are there but the line tool changes are gone.
I did some other tests. The parts were Independent Play Back. I changed this, that they were no longer Independent play back. Didn’t give the good outcome.
When I made all changes with the line tool in the parts without paste > copy and no “Lock Key Editor to selection”, the changes in Violin 1 and 2 stayed but in the viola they disappeared again.
I hope, that the team will remark this thread, and that this bug will be solved, because this bug made, that a lot of meticulous work just disappeared.
I did another test. The file I shared was made from an imported XML file.
I made a new file and wrote the notes of the first three bars anew in the string parts.
Same bad result with the line tool.
So It really seems to be a bug in Dorico itself.
I really hope that the team has soon the time to look into it, because this obstruct working in music to make a good performance a lot. I was very glad to discover the possibility to activate “Lock Key Editor to Selection” with the “J-tool”. But unfortunately days of work turn out to have been for nothing.
Of course there is a work around with the pencil tool, but I must say, that I used the line tool a lot. With long notes it is much easier to make a smooth crescendo or decrescendo with the line tool than with the pencil tool.
In the meantime I discovered, that changes I made with the line tool without using “Lock Key Editor to Selection” or copy/paste sometimes at random disappear also, after saving and starting anew the file.
I apologize for this complaints but I think that saving your work in a safe way without doubting if things really has been saved, is a fundament of every computer program. But I’m sure you agree with that and that this bug will be solved.
