Every few years I reformat and wipe my Mac. What are the steps needed to re-install Dorico Elements - I just don’t want to mess things up. Thank you
If you have a Time Machine backup (and you should), you could use it to migrate the documents to the new macOS install.
I suggest downloading the installer for Dorico 5 or, better, the installer for Steinberg Download Assistant, and just run that in the new system. It will ask you to Sign In and it will be quite straightforward from there on.
Why? I may occasionally clean up a few bulky folders with old copies-of-backups-of-unimportant-stuff, or purge an application I haven’t used in the last ten years or so, but wiping the entire drive? I don’t see the need, unless there’s been a real security breach and your system might actually be compromised. Or when you’re going to sell or donate the machine. Then a big and thorough wipe is definitely called for.
I assume you have reliable backups to restore your workspace. In Dorico’s case, don’t forget your User folder containing all your personal preferences, custom keyboard shortcuts, etc.
But maybe things have changed since my long past years as a sys admin…
That said, if you kept your installation codes (on paper maybe), and/or you can re-establish your Steinberg login, you should always be able to restore access to your existing licences, and install everything from scratch.
And if anything goes wrong, don’t hesitate to consult this forum again. People are here to help.
Thanks for coming to my aid but I guess that I need some intervention from the Dorico support team. I have backed up all my music parts but nothing else relating to Dorico. Thank you for responding.
Before you wipe your Mac, run Steinberg Activation Manager and deactivate your Dorico Elements license, so that our servers know you’re no longer using Elements on that machine. Then after you have reinstalled your operating system, simply install and run Steinberg Download Assistant, sign in with your Steinberg ID, and re-download your software.
Daniel, I have already wiped my Mac!!
Now I cannot re-install.
What do I do?
It’s no problem, of course you can reinstall. Just do as I suggest: reinstall Steinberg Download Assistant, sign in with your Steinberg ID, and then reinstall Dorico Elements.
Thank you, everyone.
I managed to get Dorico re-installed and running fine.
