Dorico for iPad with major bug

Hi!

I am using Dorico for iPad as well as Dorico pro for Mac. I love using the iPad version for sketching on the go, but have experienced some serious problems. Somehow I have lost a whole file - it will not open anymore. It says: «error opening this file».

I mostly worked on this file during the autumn and reopened it again in February to continue the work, and everything seemed to be working well. However the next day the file didn’t want to open anymore. I wonder what I can do for the file to open/work again/retrieve it, as I have a lot of material for a commissioned piece in that file, and it’s just horrible to lose everything. I can not comprehend what has happened to the file, as everything was saved up until now. Any help is deeply appreciated to solve this bug!

Right now I don’t dare to work on the iPad anymore, as it feels to risky after this experience. Otherwise I really love the iPad version on the go, and would love to return to using it as long as I know that my files are safe…

Any help or advice is deeply appreciated.

Kindest wishes,

Eira

Copy the file to your Mac.

Create a duplicate of it just in case (Cmd-D) or right-click → Duplicate.

Change the file extension directly from .dorico to .zip and approve “Use .zip”.

Double-click to open the ZIP and go to the opened folder, look inside the folder “supplementary_data” and there is a folder called “preview”.

There you’ll find a PDF file called preview.pdf of your work.

Oh, and I’d keep working on the Mac for this project in order to avoid this happening again.

Thank you so so much!

I have tried to change it to zip, but somehow it will not open. I will try again tonight. Anyways, thanks a lot for this, and will only work from my Mac until I am sure these type of issues will not occur anymore.

Wishing you a great week!

Kindest greetings, Eira

I’d like to try to help you with the file. You can send it to me as a private message through this forum.

I also couldn’t open the Dorico file, and double-clicking the created ZIP resulted in “Error 0 - undefined error: 0” on Mac’s Finder.

However, because I have another free compression app installed as well, The Unarchiver, I was able to right-click the ZIP file and select Open With - Archive Utility.

I managed thus to open the ZIP and extract preview.pdf from the folder and send it to the OP. Problem solved as far as possible.
