Dorico forgot my preferences and recent files

Dorico Pro 6.2.0.6088, Windows 10. Today, when firing up Dorico, I saw that the Recent Files window only contained the projects which come with the Dorico installation. Moreover, my preferences have been reverted, it seems, to the default ones (including the folder preferences!). The project I was working on does not contain changes I could swear I introduced yesterday. I have no recollection of anything untoward happening when I closed my laptop last night.

Is there anything I could try to at least get my preferences back? (Apart from manually setting them again, of course.)

Restore the old files from your backup of the Dorico user settings folder. On Windows, I believe it’s:

%APPDATA%\Steinberg\Dorico 6\

Thank you. Two things happened.

First, I found the backup folder at AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Dorico 6 . Unfortunately, it already contained the new, default preferences file. And the Autosave folder was completely empty!
Second, I decided to check the Recycle Bin and voila: everything I opened and saved yesterday was there. So I restored it and have not lost that work!

Thank you for the suggestion, @benwiggy !

That said, I have absolutely no idea what caused this.

Dorico’s backup folder just saves copies of your Dorico documents – not the user config files themselves.

You should be making your own backup of everything on your disk exactly for occasions such as this. Files without a backup are waiting to be lost.

Yeah, I do make regular backups of all my documents. Up to now it hadn’t occurred to me I should back up preference files!
