Dorico installation problems

I tried installing Dorico. I got an error message at the end saying I needed to download and install, one by one, 5 other programs:
eLicenser Control Center
Steinberg Activation Manager
Steinberg Installation Assistant
Steinberg Library Manager
Steinberg MediaBay

I was instructed to reboot before installing. I started with the first one, Elicencer. I got a message saying it wanted to Perform “various” maintenance tasks. I’ve seen this kind of thing before, where “various maintenance tasks” breaks something in another completely unrelated program. Before I try this, I want to be absolutely positive that this is not going to give me a lot of problems with other programs.

In looking online, I’ve seen that other people have had different elicencer problems. This doesn’t fill me with confidence.

Also I found that Elicenser is being discontinued in early 2025.

I’m thinking I ought to just wait until 2025 when Steinway has its new licensing in place.

All I wanted to do was install a trial program, and I’m already not finding it a straightforward process. I’m a bit nervous about this.

So many people are recommending Dorico. I’d really like to try it. But I’m now hesitant.

Hi @wordmuse, welcome to the forum.

Actually the eLicenser Control Center you don’t need to install, it’s for the case that you still have some old software which relies on the eLicenser.
But Dorico and all the components that come along with it now only use the new Steinberg Licenser. So just go ahead without the eLicenser Control Center.

Thanks for the welcome…
So - just to be clear, install the following:
Steinberg Activation Manager
Steinberg Installation Assistant
Steinberg Library Manager
Steinberg MediaBay

… without the Elicenser?

Guten Tag,

I too installed the demo version of Dorico five weeks ago.
All I needed was the Steinberg Download Assistant.
The Steinberg Activation Manager installed itself straight away.
Then I created a Steinberg account and received a code in an email to activate the demo version.
Note, however, that yesterday evening, a banner has been warning us that the Steinberg site was undergoing maintenance and that this could disrupt products registrations. This seems to be over now.

Cool! I retried the original installation program, and it looks to be going smoothly.

Thanks a lot, Obiwan.
