Using my Windows 11 desktop I migrated from Finale to Dorico because Finale went out of business and recommended that I switch to Dorico. Within Finale I could export an XML file to MIDI and in the process, Finale would ask me for format 0 or 1 and I would select 1. I would then import the Finale MIDI file into my software called Home Concert Extreme and I would get my treble clef and bass clef notes. I also have some software called SmartScore64 and when I export an XML file to MIDI it will ask me for format 0 or 1 and I would select 1. I would then import that SmartScore64 MIDI file into my Home Concert Extreme program, and I would get the treble clef and bass clef notes. When I export an XML file to MIDI within Dorico 6 it does not ask me for the format. From what I have read it is supposed to default to format 1. When I then import this Dorico MIDI file into Home Concert Extreme all of the notes are on the treble clef and there is no bass clef. Can anybody tell me how to make Dorico 6 separate the treble clef notes from the bass clef notes within the MIDI file?
1 if you contact Home Concert Extreme with your Dorico export midi file, they can advise;
2 you might have to create two separate staves for piano. Add another piano stave. Cut/paste the bass clef notes you already have to the bass clef of the other Grand stave.
At beat 1 on the two empty staves, right-click, Staff Remove staff.
This should leave you with two pianos of one staff each, both separate from each other.
Export and see what happens at the other end.
(There might be a few other things to do, but try that first.)
Edit: you might need to go to Play and have both instruments with the same (midi) channel for example both set to channel 1.
You might have to ask specific questions here to be able to do this if you do not know Dorico very well.
And someone else might have a far better idea than this if you wait.
You could also enable Independent Voice Playback.
This will create a separate track for every voice, but you can route all treble staff voices to one, and all bass voices to another.
Thank you so much Janus. It took me a while to find where independent voice was but when I enabled it that gave me separate treble clef and bass clef notes in Home concert extreme.
