Hi everyone. I have a 5/8 time signature but I need to write it as 2/4 plus an eighth note. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks
If you mean you want the beams to like lika a 2/4, then you can set the meter as [2+2+1]/8
Welcome to the forum, @hum.musicaparatodos!
Do you mean in terms of beaming, like this?
In this case, you can enter your Time Signature as [2+2+1]/8
@Rikard was quicker ![]()
Or [4+1]/8:
You could just use an aggregate time signature shift-M 2/4:1/8 …

Thank you for the welcome @charles_piano and your answers! Actually, what I need is for the time signature 2/4, the plus sign (+), and the eighth note symbol to be visible. I know it’s a bit strange and that it would be easier the way you’ve described, but the composer wants it that way.
Yes! Something like that! But instead of 1/8, I need the eight note symbol.
I think the best you can do is…

Ohhhh that is what I need!!! Trank you @charles_piano but, how can I write it?
It’s text, so it can get complicated if you’re dealing with a large orchestra with lots of instruments!
But if you want to try, you’re welcome! First of all, do you have MusGlyphs font?
If you don’t, I’d suggest you to download it (you’ll find it incredibly useful for many other situations).
For this example, I’ve typed 2/4 and the eighth with MusGlyphs, and the + with the “Insert Music Text” feature in the text editor.
Got it, thank you so much!!!
Personally, I find this confusing notation, because at first glance (especially when sightreading), I might interpret the eight note as a grace note to be played.
I completely agree with you @PjotrB. However, it’s the composer’s request that it be written that way. In the score I received, the time signature is written above the staff, perhaps to avoid the confusion you mentioned.
Sometimes composers will appreciate a better solution that makes their intention clearer.
Perhaps in this case an aggregate [2+2]/8|1/8 ?

It’s the sort of solution that composers rarely consider during the creative process because its a pain to do in manuscript, but welcome when someone else does it for them!
I think it’s an excellent alternative @Janus. Unfortunately, the composer passed away some years ago, and I can’t suggest this to him. However, I’ll point it out to the editor as a solution for them to consider. Thank you very much for your suggestion.
