1,st. Do you HAVE to restart Dorico to hear a change in the output level in the preferences panel ?
- If you do this should you see the faders in the Mix window at a lower height ?

No, but in the preferences you specify the default level for new projects, it does not affect already existing projects.

You can apply them to existing projects by re-applying the playback template, but if you’re using a custom playback template, it’s almost certainly better simply to go into the Mixer and adjust the faders there.
ok. I am actually using my own so yes i’ll do that. So is zero on the preferences setting zero in the mixer ?

Yes, the gain value shown on the slider in Preferences is the gain value you will see in the Mixer when you start a new project or re-apply your playback template.
